Run Yank Run 047: No Breath

Well it's Sunday long run time again, so I headed out the door on a rainy day to log some miles. BUT, my body had other plans. I only made five miles or so. I just didn't have any lung capacity. I got a case of the flu a week ago and I'm starting to think perhaps it was actually mild pneumonia. I feel better now but my heart rate was too high and I felt out of breath, so I cut the run short. Well, frequency over duration, right?

In this episode I talk about switching back to the Garmin, a new service I found that converts Garmin data into Nike+, and mention a site called Home Run London that organises group runs and will even handle baggage for you (I havent tried it yet but was tipped off by Claudia who left a comment on this blog).

I have a ticket to ride (again) to visit with Krister from the Running The Narrow Path podcast in Sweden at the end of the month and I'm really excited about that.

Oh, and for those of you wondering about the London riots, thankfully that has died down.

Run Yank Run 046: Weekend Runs

Hello folks, join me on a short 5K run on a sunny Sunday as I honour Nigel from the Running From The Reaper podcast for his Dailymile challenge of running 5K for 5 Years Of Podcasting.

This was a recovery run after Saturday's half marathon with @stevechopper from the A Mile With Me podcast and @clewsy from the Velo Club podcast. Steve had planned a Mojo Loco London but for various reasons it ended up just being us for an impromptu run along the Thames from Richmond to Hampton Court and back. It was a great run with great company and we got some good conversations (and some walking) into a long afternoon of running in the sun and clouds.

Run Yank Run 45: Race Day

Time once again for another istallment of Run Yank Run. Running been hit or miss due to work and life, but I was able to run the 2011 British 10K today and it was a lot of fun. Despite not receiving a pack pack, Tube closure, and general life wear and tear, I made it to start line and ran a good race. My goal was to finish in under an hour and whilst the offical chip timing isnt in yet, my Nike+ places me at just over 52 minutes. Happy with that.

Here's some pictures of the race and from ones I snapped:

Run Yank Run 044: I'm Baaack!

Once again, long time no see. A LOT has been going on since the last podcast episode and I try in my rambling way to recap in reverse chronological order all the drama and mundanity (is that a word?).

My father had a heart attack and then a double bypass and valve replacement, so I hopped on a plane to Michigan in the US to be there for that. He is now recovering and we are all thankful that he made it through the surgery and is on the way to health.

Another thing I do in the episode is review the Nike+ GPS Sportwatch that I have been using (when I have been running, that is). In short, it's a great option if you want a simple, elegant running watch and don't already have a Garmin. There, now you don't have to listen ;)
I have really been missing running and will be making a new concerted effort to weave it back into what has become a pretty hectic life, but without it what is there?

Run Yank Run 043: Go West

Hey folks, join me for another riverside weekend long run, one of two.

This time I decided to Go West Young Man, and venture out past Richmond to parts till now unrun and unexplored (well, at least by me).

Spring is definitely here and the leaves, flowers (and riverside flies) are going all out. Life is good, running is good, all is well. Well, except for my home internet connect saga, but I'll save that rant for the podcast...

Run Yank Run 042: Good Week

Hiya, I am writing this post by candlelight at a pub on the Chiswick High Street on a Sunday evening. My well-deserved pint is next to me and I am taking advantage of the free broadband (with purchase). Still no internet connection at the apartment (will take an additional 7-14 days!!!!) but hey, beggars can't be choosers, right?

It's been a good week for running. I logged 41 miles this week. My legs are feeling it now, but in a good way. Yesterday I went for a 15 mile run along the south bank of the Thames from Kew to Waterloo. Here's a map of the route:

It wasnt fast but I made to keep my average heartrate at 160. By the end my legs were pretty tired, proving I have a long way to go to get back to marathon fitness, but I didn't die and the next day (today) I went for a 6 mile recovery run during which I recorded this episode.

In short, life is good. The sun is shining, the trees and flowers are blooming, and Spring is finally here!

Run Yank Run 041: New Home!

This episode was recorded during a 10 mile Sunday long run.

Big News! I finally moved into a place of my own. It's a one bedroom flat on the Chiswick High Street and I couldn't be happier.

Work, life, and finding and moving into an apartment have eaten into running since the previous podcast, but now that things have settled I am looking forward to running more consistently.

In preparation (and wishful thinking) for warmer months ahead I invested in the Inov-8 H2Orizontal 2L Hydration bladder that is made to fit the Inov-8 Race Pro running rucksacks. This was my trial run with it and I love how the water bladder ride low in the small of my back. Felt very balanced and I forgot it was in there!
