Run Yank Run 036: A Song

Hiya, time for another run and podcast, this time on a Friday day off. I go for a run along the Thames once again, this time in the opposite direction and am so intent on chatting away I miss Barnes Bridge, my intended turnaround point. Whoopsie!

Anyway, in this episode I include for the first time a recording of a song I did with my friend Vlad. I'm kinda nervous about putting it out there, but hey, sharing is caring right? Hope you like it.

Featured Songs:
"I Won't Back Down" originally by Tom Petty, recorded by Paul Abrelat and Vlad Shlesman

Run Yank Run 035: New Clothes

Join me for another Sunday run, this time a longer variation of the Bridges run for a total distance of 6 miles.

I started the recording thinking I didn't have much to say but I seem to have filled up 45 minutes with my ramblings. Hopefully the appearance of coherence is enough to satisfy!

Run Yank Run 034: Keepin' On

Hi everyone, it's time once again for another podcast episode. Join me for another Sunday Bridges run.

In this episode I talk about how the fledgling restart of my running is progressing, you get to hear some gusty wind (not me!), I share my first audio comment submitted by my podcasting inspiration, Nigel from the Running From The Reaper podcast, and I share some emails I received from the last podcast including one from JayDub of the B-HAG Running podcast.

I also talk about upcoming Christmas plans and briefly touch upon my forays into meditation.

Oh, and here's a picture I snapped with my Blackberry during a morning commute run:

Run Yank Run 033: Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Once again I'm back. Join me for a four miler along the river on the Bridges route.

I am starting from scratch yet again, but this time it's for real. I have run maybe three times in the last couple of months. Sorry to all of you who have contacted me asking when I was going to post another podcast. I explain what has been going on in the podcast, but in short I have been dealing with a lot of personal family issues.

But running is coming back into my life and it's a good good thing!

Here's a picture of me and the boys in Northumberland on our trip we took. It was right up against the border of Scotland. Castles everywhere!

Commuting Chaos (and a quick update)

Hey Everyone, long time no see. Yeah, that's because of pesky life again. Sorry!

I wanted to drop a quick post to the blog to let you know I WILL be recording another podcast episode very soon - probably during this week so it can be up in iTunes before the weekend.

Today was nutty - there is a Tube strike in London and my bike commute was pretty hectic - lots more cars than usual, the sidewalks were jammed with walkers and people waiting for busses (and crossing the road in random, dangerous places). There were also plenty of novice cyclists out there, weaving back and forth, stopping randomly, cutting in front of people... you get the picture.

But hey, I cycled 8.2 miles on a sunny English morning!

Talk to you soon.

Run Yank Run 032: For Jody

Hello again, this episode is dedicated to Jody Carner, my mother in law who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and has had a course of chemotherapy. She's doing very well and has been walking two miles a day while on chemo! Our hopes are on a positive result

Despite the blow of finding this out, I kept the episode light and go over all the regular topics too, like training, my new Garmin 310XT, being a bachelor for a week, etc.

Featured Songs (given the circumstances I used a "regular" song):
"Show Me" Mint Royal featuring Pos from De La Soul

Run Yank Run 031: Hello (Again)

After two months, I'm back. A little older, a little grayer, a little wiser, and ultimately a lot happier. Changing jobs was messy and way more stressful than it had to be, but I am so happy I did it and am really enjoying my new role at R/GA.

In this episode I go over the half marathon I did run in 1:56, the half I didn't (you'll have to listen), as well as talk about running in my new Vibram Fivefinger KSOs which I love.

I also talk about what's been going on and play some songs from my son's school's performance of Grease. I volunteered to play in the band for the musical and it was a lot of fun.

As always, thanks for listening!

"Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" as performed by the Grove Park Primary School
"Grease Is The Word" as performed by the Grove Park Primary School

Run Yank Run 030: Birthday Boy

Join me for a 6 mile run along the Thames on a lovely, sunny morning with a birdsong accompaniment.

In this episode I talk about my 42 birthday, announce that I am making an exciting job change to a new digital agency called R/GA, discuss my training and the upcoming White Peak Half Marathon and pose the following question to you listeners out there:

Which would be the better gadget to get - an iPad or a Garmin 310XT?

??????

I'd love to hear your opinions on this, so leave me a message! Either post a comment here or send me an email.

Run Yank Run 029: Ash Cloud

Hello again. Sorry for yet another massively long silent spell, I go into the reason for this podcast's absence in great detail in this episode, but in short it goes like this: I got really sick in March, work exploded, then we went on holiday in Spain and got stuck due to the volcanic ash cloud.

Our trip was great and we really enjoyed getting away. We saw never ending orange groves, over-developed beachfronts, ancient castles, and the inside of a Spanish hospital when one of my children got pneumonia (!). He's perfectly fine now but that was a bit of drama for the trip.

I go over being stuck in Spain due to all flights being cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud and our journey home by bus and ferry.

And finally I talk about the running I have been doing, an upcoming race, and conducting an interview for the Runners Roundtable podcast next week with Alex Vero, a UK documentary filmmaker, runner and creator of the documentary "Running to the Limits."

Run Yank Run 028: Born Free

Join me for a 10 mile run through Richmond Park in my new Nike Free 5.0 shoes.

In this episode I discuss all kinds of stuff including forefoot running, upcoming races, first impressions of running in the Nike Free's (is that the proper plural??) and various random thoughts, as usual.

This time the episode is a healthy 45 minutes rather than the brief 20 minute ones of late, so save this one for your next long run if you feel so inclined!

Run Yank Run 027: Knee's Fine!

Hi everybody, this episode was recorded during my first run in two weeks. I injured my left knee (actually re-injured it) so I had to lay off running for a while.

It felt great to get out there and run, even if it was just a sub 3 mile commute run!

In this episode I talk about recovering from injury, some ideas for the podcast, Christopher MacDougal's book "Born To Run" and the concept for barefoot running.

Run Yank Run 026: Well Howdy!

Well howdy, long time no see. Sorry about that - I had recorded 45 minutes of witty, inspiring, and captivating material the first week of January (yeah right) but most of it ended up garbled. I think the microphone jack got jiggled during the run. Sigh.

Then things got crazy with the weather and work and sick kids, etc. Anyway, we are back in business.

When I have been able to run I have been doing great - bookended morning and evening commute runs with average weekly totals of about 25 miles - despite not running for several days per week.

I am also doing the 100 Pushups program and the 200 situps program, and that is humming along well.

Anyway, I promise it wont be so long till the next episode - I just realized I completely forgot to mention the 10 in 10 Challenge put together by Nigel from Running From The Reaper, so stay tuned for that in the next episode!
